Gadget Insurance FAQs

  • What is Gadget Insurance?

    Gadget Insurance is a new cost effective way to protect our most valuable and important every day gadgets that we would be lost without.

  • What is covered under the policy?

    This policy covers the cost in replacing or repairing products as a result of Theft, Accidental Damage, Liquid Damage and Breakdown (excludes laptops).

    Loss Cover is available to add for a small additional premium for Mobile Phones, tablets, iPads and smart watches.

  • Am I covered outside of the UK?

    The policy provides worldwide cover for up to 180 days in any 12 month period so your items are covered wherever in the world you take them. Please refer to the policy document for more details.

  • What products does GadgetInsurance.com cover?

    Eligible products are camcorders, Mobile /Smart Phones, iPhones, Smart Watches, iPods/MP3 players, iPads / Tablets, Sat Nav systems, Laptops, Digital Cameras, Hand-Held Games Consoles, Digital SLR lenses, E-book readers and Headphones.

  • Am I covered straight away?

    This policy does not cover any claim made, or any event causing the need for a claim to be made, that occurs within the first 14 days of the start date of the policy or the first 14 days of any amendment to the policy where the electronic gadget has not been insured within 14 days of purchase.

  • How do I add items or make a change to my policy?

    To add items or make a change to your policy you can contact us by telephone on the number shown on the website.

  • Can I add Accidental Loss cover to my policy at a later date?

    You can add Accidental Loss cover to your policy at a later date. The policy does not cover any claim within the first 14 days from the date you add the Accidental Loss cover on where the electronic gadget has not been insured within 14 days of purchase. This can be done by contacting us at [email protected] or by telephone on the number shown on the website.

  • Is accidental loss cover available for other gadgets as well?

    No not currently, accidental loss cover is only offered on mobile phones, smart watches, tablets and iPad’s.

  • What does accidental loss cover include?

    If you selected the option to pay an additional premium and cover your mobile phone, smart watch, tablet or iPad for accidental loss, then if you lose your mobile phone, smart watch, tablet or iPad we will replace it. This cover is only operative if shown on your validation certificate and the additional premium has been paid.

    You will also be covered for unauthorised call use if you selected the option to insure your mobile phone for accidental loss; then if your mobile phone is lost or stolen and your claim accepted, upon receipt of your itemized bill we will reimburse fraudulent call costs up to the value of £10,000.

  • What are the main conditions and exclusions on the Gadget Insurance policy?

    You must be 18 years old or over and resident in the UK to purchase this policy.

    You cannot make a claim in the first 14 days after purchasing this policy nor can you make a claim in the first 14 days of adding any new or changed gadget where the electronic gadget has not been insured within 14 days of purchase.

    The gadgets must not be more than 12 months old, must be purchased in the UK, Republic of Ireland or US as new, or if refurbished, purchased directly from the manufacturer, and you must be able to provide evidence of ownership at inception of this insurance cover.

    No cover is provided for wear and tear/gradual deterioration.

  • How do I claim?

    To make a claim on this policy you will need to contact Claims Administrators.

  • Is there an excess?

    Yes there is, from the 25th August 2018 the following excess fees will apply:

    - If your claim is for a gadget up to the value of £250 (when new) the policy excess is £50 for any claim.
    - If your claim is for a gadget up to the value of £750 (when new) the policy excess is £75 for any claim.
    - If your claim is for a gadget over the value of £750 (when new) the policy excess is £100 for any claim.
    - The excess must be paid in full before your claim can be approved.

  • What is the claims procedure?

    You must notify Claims Administrators (for contact details please refer to Make a Claim page) as soon as possible but in any event within 48 hours of any incident likely to give rise to a claim under the insurance.

    You must report the theft or accidental loss of any mobile phone within 24 hours of discovery to your Airtime Provider and blacklist your handset.

    You must report the theft or accidental loss of any gadgets to the Police within 48 hours of discovery and obtain a crime reference number in support of a theft claim and a lost property number in support of an accidental loss claim.

  • What documentation do I need to make a claim?

    In the event of a claim you will need to provide evidence of ownership. This can be a copy of your receipt, delivery note or confirmation from your network provider that the mobile phone has been used by you.

    You may also be asked to provide evidence that your gadget has been used after the date you insured it.

  • Who is the policy arranged and underwritten by?

    This insurance is arranged and administered by Blue Insurance Limited with Bastion Insurance Services Ltd, and underwritten by Inter Partner Assistance SA UK Branch (IPA) which is fully owned by the AXA Partners Group. Inter Partner Assistance is a Belgian firm authorised by the National Bank of Belgium and subject to limited regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority. Details about the extent of its regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority are available from us on request. Inter Partner Assistance SA Financial Conduct Authority Register number is 202664.You can check this on the Financial Conduct Authority’s Register by visiting the website www.fca.org.uk/register.

  • Does the replacement cover work on a new for old basis?

    This policy offers replacement only and is not a replacement as new policy. If the gadget cannot be replaced with an identical gadget of the same age, colour and condition, we will replace it with one of comparable specification or the equivalent value taking into account the age and condition of the original gadget.

    In the event of a valid claim resulting in the replacement of the gadget, this policy will automatically cover the replacement gadget.

  • Can I cancel a policy I have bought?

    It’s your right to change your mind. You may cancel the insurance, without giving reason, by sending us written notice and returning the insurance documents within 14 days of it starting or (if later) within 14 days of you receiving the insurance documents.

    Cancellation after the 14 day period
    For monthly policies you may cancel your insurance by calling Gadgetinsurance.com on the telephone number shown on the website or in writing by emailing [email protected] allowing one month's notice.

    For annual policies you may cancel your insurance at any time however an administration fee shall be due equal to 25% of the annual premium with a minimum fee applying of £10.

  • What charges do I incur when buying a policy?

    We do not charge any additional fee’s in the supply of your policy.

  • Can I take out cover for my work phone?

    No, there is no cover for products which are not owned by you, for example those given to you by your employer for work, or those lent to you by a friend.

  • Can we cover a child's (under 18) gadget on their parents policy?

    Yes, provided they all reside at the same address.

  • Can I insure a gadget I bought from my friend?

    We do not offer cover for second hand phones.

  • Can I insure a gadget I bought from eBay?

    Yes, but only if you purchase the gadget as new from a supplier based in the UK, Republic of Ireland or US. You will need to provide evidence of ownership in the event of a claim.

    Evidence of ownership means a document to evidence that the gadget you are claiming for belongs to you. This can be a copy of the till receipt, delivery note, gift receipt or, if the gadget is a mobile phone, confirmation from your network provider that the mobile phone has been used by you.

  • Can I insure my gadget if I do not have evidence of ownership?

    When you make a claim, it will be necessary for you to submit evidence of ownership for the insured gadget. If the gadget is a mobile phone and was purchased/received in conjunction with a network provider’s contract, your network provider will be able to provide you with evidence of ownership.

  • Can I insure a gadget I received as a gift?

    Yes, you can insure this gadget provided you have a gift receipt in your own name or other evidence of ownership and the gadet gifted has been from the Republic of Ireland, UK or from the US.

  • How many times can I claim on my policy in 12 month period?

    We offer unlimited repair and replacements on your gadgets.
