Gadget Insurance is a new cost effective way to protect our most valuable and important every day gadgets that we would be lost without.

What is covered under the policy?
This policy covers the cost in replacing or repairing products as a result of Theft, Accidental Damage and Liquid Damage. It also offers cover for fraudulent call use in the event that your phone is stolen. Loss Cover is available to add for a small additional premium for Mobile Phones, tablets, iPad's and smart watches. Please refer to the Gadget Insurance policy document for the full terms and conditions.

Am I covered outside Ireland?
Cover is extended to include use of the electronic gadgets anywhere in the world up to a maximum of 180 days in total, in any single 12 month period, subject to repairs being carried out in the Republic of Ireland or the UK by repairers approved by us.

What products does GadgetInsurance.com cover?
Eligible products are camcorders, Mobile /Smart Phones, iPhones, iPods/MP3 players, iPads / Tablets, Sat Nav systems, Laptops, Digital Cameras, Go Pro's, Hand Held Games Consoles, Digital SLR lenses, E-book readers and Headphones.

Am I covered straight away?
This policy does not cover any claim made, or any event causing the need for a claim to be made, that occurs within the first 14 days of the start date of the policy or the first 14 days of any amendment to your policy where the electronic gadget has not been insured within 14 days of purchase. This also applies if you add loss cover after inception of the policy.

Can I add loss cover to my Mobile Phone, Smart Watch, iPad or Tablet at a later date?
The policy will allow you to add loss cover to your Mobile Phone, Smart Watch, iPad or Tablet at a later date. The policy does not cover any claim within the first 14 days from the date you add the loss cover on where the electronic gadget has not been insured within 14 days of purchase. This can be done by contacting us at [email protected] or on 0818 286 456 provided you have not made a claim.

Is loss cover available for other Gadgets as well?
No, loss cover is only offered on Mobile Phones, Smart Watches, iPad’s and Tablet's.

What does accidental loss cover include?
If you selected the option to pay an additional premium and cover your mobile phone, smart watch, tablet or iPad for accidental loss, then if you lose your mobile phone, smart watch, tablet or iPad we will replace it. This cover is only operative if shown on your validation certificate and the additional premium has been paid.
You will also be covered for fraudulent call use if you selected the option to insure your mobile phone for accidental loss; then if your mobile phone is lost and your claim accepted, upon receipt of your itemized bill we will reimburse fraudulent call costs up to the value of €10,000.

What are the main conditions and exclusions on the Gadget Insurance policy?
You must be over 18 and resident in the Republic of Ireland to purchase this policy.
The gadget has to be under 12 months old and must have been purchased from new by you in the Republic of Ireland, UK or US for which you must be able to provide evidence of ownership.
The electronic gadget must be in good condition and full working order at the time this policy is purchased with no prior repairs from non-manufacturer approved repairers.
You are not covered for any incidents that occur within the first 14 days of cover where the electronic gadget has not been insured within 14 days of purchase.
There is no cover provided for wear and tear or gradual deterioration of performance.

Is there an excess?
Yes there is an excess fee payable on all claims, which must be paid in full before your claim can be approved. Please refer to the Claims Procedure in the policy document for further information.

What is the claims procedure?
You notify Claims Administrators as soon as possible but in any event within 48 hours of any incident likely to give rise to a claim under the insurance.
You must report the theft or loss of any mobile phone, within 24 hours of discovery to your Network Provider and blacklist your handset.
You must report the theft or accidental loss of any electronic gadgets to the Gardai within 48 hours of discovery and obtain a crime reference number in support of a theft and a lost property number in support of an accidental loss claim.

What documentation do I need to make a claim?
In the event of a claim you will need to provide evidence of ownership. This can be a copy of your receipt, delivery note or confirmation from your network provider that the mobile phone has been used by you.
You may also be asked to provide evidence that your gadget has been used after the date you insured it.

Does the replacement cover work on a new for old basis?
This policy offers replacement only and is not a replacement as new policy.
The intention of this policy is to put you back in the same position as immediately prior to the loss or damage.
If the electronic gadget cannot be replaced with an identical electronic gadget of the same age and condition, we will replace it with one of comparable specification or the equivalent value taking into account the age and condition of the original electronic gadget. We cannot guarantee that the replacement electronic gadget will be the same colour as the original item.

Can I cancel a policy I have bought?
It’s your right to change your mind. On the condition that no claims have been made or are pending, you may cancel the insurance, without giving reason, by sending us written notice and returning the insurance documents within 14 days of it starting or (if later) within 14 days of you receiving the insurance documents.

What charges do I incur when buying a policy?
We do not charge any additional fee’s in the supply of your policy.

Can I take out cover for my work phone?
No, this policy does not provide cover for products which are not owned by you, for example those given to you by your employer for work, or those lent to you by a friend.
However we do have a separate Corporate Gadget Insurance policy available; please refer to the website home page for further details.

Can we cover a child's (under 18) gadget on their parents policy?
Yes, provided they all reside at the same address.

Can I insure a gadget a bought from my friend?
No, we do not offer cover for second hand phones.

Can I insure a gadget I bought from Ebay?
Yes, but only if you purchase the gadget as new from a supplier in the Republic of Ireland, UK or US. You will need to provide evidence of ownership in the event of a claim.
We do not provide cover for electronic gadgets purchased second hand or from an individual.

Can I insure my phone if I do not have a receipt?
When you make a claim, it will be necessary for you to provide evidence of ownership. This can be a copy of the till receipt, delivery note, gift receipt or, if the electronic gadget is a mobile phone, confirmation from your network provider that the mobile phone has been used by you.

Can I insure a gadget I received as a gift?
Yes, you can insure this gadget provided you have a gift receipt or other evidence of ownership and the gadet gifted has been from the Republic of Ireland, UK or from the US.

How many times can I claim on my policy in 12 month period?
We offer unlimited repair and replacements on electronic gadgets.
